Bo Sun and collaborators used a type of artificial intelligence known as computer vision to track a cell’s migration program based on its shape; computer vision derives information from digital photos, video and other visual inputs.

The field of biophysics has seen tremendous growth and excitement in recent years with areas of focus ranging across all scales, from the structural organization of single proteins to the evolutionary dynamics of populations. Biophysics research is inherently interdisciplinary, where powerful tools from chemistry, biology, optics, computer science and engineering all combine to advance our quantitative and mechanistic understanding of living systems. OSU has active research programs on molecular and cell biophysics, dedicated to training the next generation of leaders pushing the forefront of research at the interface of physics and biology.
