In my presentation I will provide my vision of the anatomy of a healthy department, department citizenship, and department mission. In some ways, a snapshot of the Department of Physics at Oregon State University today, and where it is five to ten years from now, is an experiment that other physics departments and universities will be closely watching. Specifically, OSU has been blessed with an amazing growth of the student body over the past fifteen years, but the corresponding investment in infrastructure has lagged far behind. Physics is acutely aware of the irony. I will present my approach to convincing the university to invest in the department, i.e. the strategic plan, and the decisions the department will have to make in order to execute the plan.
