Near the critical point of a liquid, there are density fluctuations at all length scales. In this regime, mean field theories break down. As the critical point is approached, there becomes less and less of a difference in free energy of the liquid and vapor states; this causes difficulty in modeling liquid-vapor coexistence. This work develops a method for calculating liquid-vapor coexistence, and applies renormalization group theory to the square well liquid.
