With a Bachelor’s degree in Physics from Oregon State University and a Master's degree in Learning Sciences from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, Michael has an academic background firmly rooted at the intersection of education and data analytics. Specializing in the study of metacognition during abstract problem-solving, Michael has developed expertise in designing curricula, interventions, and programs that foster effective learning. They leverage techniques using machine learning, advanced statistical analysis, and software design in order to analyze school data to improve student outcomes.

Michael is also a former classroom teacher, having taught physics, algebra 2, and design thinking at multiple title I high schools across the country. On top of their teaching experience, Michael has most recently been a data strategist in Chicago Public Schools.

Currently, Michael is the Founder and CEO of Data Driven Ed, an education technology company that provides data warehouse, dashboard, reporting, and consulting services to K-12 school districts.
