An experimental approach to Fourier analysis using a Digital Micromirror Array (DMA) as a spatial filter is developed through the analysis of a Ronchi ruling optical pattern. Maximum intensities measured in the Fourier transform plane with a CCD camera are compared to the theoretical intensities predicted by Fourier optics theory. For optical wavelength λ=653 nm and Fourier transform lens focal length f=500 mm, Experimental intensities located 756 μm and 2268 μm from the zero frequency component are 1.74 and 2.54 times larger than the predicted theoretical intensities. Nonzero intensities emerge at 1512 μm and 3024 μm from the zero frequency component, positions at which Fourier theory predicts zero intensity. The shape of the experimental intensity curve matches the theoretical curve.
