Dr. Jameson O'Reilly, University of Oregon, Physics

Abstract: Physics degree holders are highly employable in both the private and public sectors. However, students and early career scientists may be unaware of non-academic career pathways that exist within industry. This talk will provide an overview and examples of common career paths taken by physics degree holders, as well as give resources to assist with career exploration and the job search. The speaker will also discuss his own career path as a postdoctoral scholar at the University of Oregon.

Speaker bio: Jameson O'Reilly is a postdoctoral scholar at the University of Oregon. In this role, he conducts research on quantum computing and sensing with trapped atomic ions. Jameson earned a physics master's at the University of Maryland and a PhD at Duke University, both with a focus on photonic interconnects for trapped ion quantum computers. He is an APS Career Mentoring Fellow.
