Abstract:

This talk will provide a historical prospective on the development of high-resolution fluorescence spectroscopy, with an emphasis on specific contributions of each Nobel Prize 2014 recipient (Eric Betzig, Stefan Hell, and W. E. Moerner) to the field. Key approaches and discoveries in the field will be summarized, and applications of super-resolved microscopy to molecular physics, biophysics, and materials science discussed.
