First Order Differential Equation

We start with one of the simplest differential equations.

It's linear in y(t) and its derivatives and the highest order derivative is the first one, therefore it's called a linear first order differential equation. Although first order differential equations are not as common in Physics as second order equations, they are an important key to numerical solutions of differential equations in general and they describe phenomena like radioactive decay or the time dependence of simple electronic circuits.
