Printing

Printing on Weniger Printers

Here is how to print to the printers in either of the physics labs or in 301 using Windows XP.In the control panel, go to printers and faxes.  Select add a printer on the left part of the screen. After that you have an option of either a local or network printer.  Choose local printer;. Make sure you do not select Automatically detect and install my plug and play printer. It will not find anything.   On the next screen under create a new port choose Standard IP/TCP port in the drop menu.  Click next twice and then it will then ask for a printer name and Port name.
Type in the following in for Printer name or IP address for the printer you want<

wngr301-prn1.physics.oregonstate.edu (for Weniger 301 and faculty use only!)
wngr497-prn1.physics.orst.edu  (for Weniger 497)
wngr412-prn1.physics.orst.edu  (for Weniger 412)

Then is will ask for a driver and I used HP LaserJet 4000 Series PCL  which is under the manufacturer of HP and about half way down the list of printers.

Here is how to do this on linux I did this using Suse Linux 10.3 and I began by going into Yast2.  Under Hardware, click Printer then  add printer.  Next choose network printer.  Then select print directly to a network printer.   The next option to choose is Direct TCP port.  Then you need to type in one of the printer IP locations listed above.  If you click Test Remote Socket Access it should return a statement that says "Available."  Last you can name the printer and print a test document.
