Lecture: Finding Intensive and Extensive Variables (5 minutes)

  • A brief classification of the definitions of Intensive and Extensive.
  • This lecture should directly follow the activity Finding Intensive and Extensive Variables FIXME - add link
  • Students should be able to see that all extensive variables vary in the same way, whereas intensive ones all stay the same
  • There is usually confusion over at least one of the variables. Sometimes having a model is a good way to illustrate the difference. Using the class as a model is a good way to demonstrate as well; number of students, average temperature, mass, and volume are all good examples to use.
